Note-C 2.5.9 released
Note-C 2.5.9 is now available on the Mac App Store.
This update offers many small improvements, bug fixes and adjustments in various areas of Note-C that further improve working with the application.
There are also new options that are interesting for Markdown, Markdown Extra and MultiMarkdown users. In detail, it is about the double space at the end of lines to create a manual line break. As there is no real visual indication of this in the text, it is often overlooked. The “Highlight double spaces” option creates a visual hint that can be used to quickly identify such formatting.
Furthermore, there is now the option to automatically insert two spaces with a line break. As inserting two spaces to create a manual line break does not necessarily correspond to one's natural writing style, this function can be helpful.
Changes in detail:
New:
- new settings option for visual highlighting of double spaces at the end of a line (can be set under Preferences > Typography)
- new option for Markdown, MultiMarkdown and MarkdownExtra: Magic Double Space. This function adds two spaces to the end of the last line when a line break occurs. If there are two line breaks, the two spaces of the last line are removed again
- Markers in texts that are inserted via copy&paste: The first marker is automatically selected after pasting
Improvements:
- Improved copy and paste behavior of the text editor when the “Paste formatted” option is activated. Source code and plain text copied from web browsers are now better recognized
- improved the behavior of the editor when using the “Move cursor” keyboard shortcuts
- minor adjustments to the markup templates for image and link for the Markdown, MarkdownExtra and MultiMarkdown languages. Fields two and three are now labeled with markers, which enables faster editing of the respective markups
Updated:
- updated some pages in the help
Bug fixes:
- fixes a bug that prevented scrolling in some areas of the preview
- fixes an inaccuracy in the counting of characters in the formatted text
- fixes a bug with cursor customization in certain font, size and cursor settings that caused the cursor not to have the desired appearance
- fixes a bug that caused the display not to be updated after deleting an entry in certain positions within the notebook
- fixes a bug when setting the options for line numbering in the preferences

MarkupTable 1.8.1 released
MarkupTable 1.8.1 is now available on the Mac App Store.
This update for MarkupTable contains a new feature for Markdown users and two bug fixes.
For Markdown users, there has long been a desire to be able to set the column alignment supported by the syntax. I thought long about how to incorporate this feature into MarkupTable without touching the structure of the CSV file format. In the end, I opted for the most obvious and perhaps also the “simplest” solution. The direct, but optional, entry of the alignment markup in the CSV table offers several advantages:
- the information can also be viewed in other programs
- Changes to the CSV file in other programs do not result in the alignment settings being lost
- the alignment can be adjusted quickly and easily in any editor
MarkupTable automatically recognizes the alignment markups and shapes them according to the table to create an aligned text.
The MarkupTable 1.8.1 Release Notes
New:
- tables that are to be formatted for Markdown can be provided with an alignment line. If the second line contains alignment elements (:--- , :---: , ---:), MarkupTable recognizes these and automatically adjusts the result in the conversion. If there are no alignment elements in the second line or it contains characters that are not allowed for alignment, the separator line between header and body will be added automatically as before.
Bug fixes:
- fixes a bug in the CSV view that caused entries made in the text field before the field separator was changed to be resetted under certain circumstances
- fixes a bug when importing CSV data via the “Import table from clipboard” function, which only produced empty values
