This update of MarkMyWords offers new features and design improvements to further enhance your experience with MarkMyWords.

PDF Export with Headers and Footers

With the latest update of MarkMyWords, documents can be exported in PDF format with headers and footers. This is particularly noteworthy because documents created with MarkMyWords are essentially web pages, and when exporting them to PDF, there is a limitation regarding headers and footers that, simply put, makes generating them impossible. Therefore, MarkMyWords takes advantage of macOS’s ability to edit PDF documents and inserts the headers and footers after the document has been created.

In the MarkMyWords preferences, under the “PDF + Formatted Print” section, you can configure and enable headers and footers. A wide range of options allows for customization and offers the ability to add page numbers and a logo in addition to text and divider lines.

Not only does exporting to PDF benefit from this feature, but so does formatted printing on paper.

Overscroll Area for the Editor

A feature commonly found in programming editors is the overscroll area at the bottom of the editor. This is designed to prevent the text from “sticking” to the bottom of the text field when scrolling to the end of the text. Depending on your writing preferences, you may find this helpful. Since this significantly alters the text field’s natural scrolling behavior, the scroll bar appears more frequently while typing.

If this bothers you but you still want to use the overscroll area, you should set the scroll bar option to “Always Show” in the system settings.

In the MarkMyWords preferences, under the Editor section, you can enable the overscroll area by selecting the desired size for this area.

This update also includes various improvements to the user interface in the preferences and bug fixes in Distraction-Free Mode. Full details about this update can be found in the list of changes.

The complete list of changes:

New:

• Formatted printing and PDF export now include a new option to add header and footer elements (text, page numbers, image) [requires macOS 11.0 or later]. You can access the relevant options in the settings.
• Option to enable or disable “soft” line breaks in the editor under the View menu - Enable/Disable Soft Line Breaks
• New editor setting to create a scroll-over area at the bottom of the editor

Improvements:

• Minor visual adjustments in the Files section of the side panel
• Visual redesign of the Distraction-Free Mode settings
• Various visual updates in the settings

Bug fixes:

• Fixes a bug in the Distraction-Free Mode settings that prevented changes to the quotation mark selection from taking effect immediately
• Fixes a bug in the dim function in Distraction Free Mode that did not reactivate when continuing to type
• Fixes a bug in the automatic display of spelling correction suggestions, which prevented corrections from being inserted
