First up is TextButler – an assistant for effortless text manipulation.

With TextButler, you can instantly adapt and refine text in MarkMyWords: whether via keyboard shortcut or menu command, at the moment you paste it in or when working with existing text. By combining "recipes" made of a set of "ingredients" such as trimming, find-and-replace, or pre-built templates, text editing becomes faster, sharper, and less cumbersome.

The second feature is a streamlined footnote tool for MultiMarkdown, making footnote creation as quick as typing. Just enter your footnote text, and MarkMyWords will automatically insert the markup and place it at the end of your document.
You can access the footnote tool from the main menu under Markup ➤ Footnote, using the button in the content-control-bar, or with the convenient F1 shortcut (fn + F1 if system function keys are enabled). This keeps your writing flow uninterrupted and handles ID management automatically so you can focus on your content.

The new version of PlainPad is now available on the Mac App Store.

This update for PlainPad introduces an interesting new feature: the TextButler system. Originally a rather simple request to remove spaces when pasting from the clipboard, I designed TextButler to cover various scenarios in text processing.

With TextButler, text in MySuperCoolApp can be flexibly adjusted – using keyboard shortcuts or the menu, either when inserting or on existing text. Using “recipes” with freely combinable "ingredients" like trimming, replacing, or templates, text editing becomes simple, fast, and precise.

Another new feature is the option to automatically copy selected text to the clipboard.

TextButler System. TextButler allows you to compile your own sets of text transformations that can be applied to selected text or text pasted from the clipboard. The following actions are available:
- Trimming spaces and custom-defined characters in a variety of ways

Actions can also be combined in recipes and adapted for different use cases.

Essaylum Testflight Beta

A new updated version of the beta of Essaylum is now available and automatically accessible to all TestFlight users.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve made numerous changes, bug fixes, and refinements to Essaylum. A nearly complete help/manual in both German and English is now included as well.

There’s still some work to be done to smooth out the remaining rough edges of this first version.

Notes on the beta test

Essaylum uses Apple’s Testflight system for beta testing. For those who have not yet had any contact with TestFlight, it is recommended to take a look at Apple’s overview page, where everything about Testflight is explained. The corresponding links are at the end of this entry.

In order to use the full range of Essaylum features, it is necessary to activate an In-App purchase. In TestFlight, In-App purchases are provided free of charge during the beta phase. Please note the corresponding App Store messages that you receive when you log in and click on the In-App purchases. Overall, the whole procedure is structured like in the normal App Store and should be easily accessible to anyone who has ever downloaded/purchased something in the App Store.

This update of MarkMyWords offers an extensive list of improvements, optimizations and bug fixes in various areas that further improve working with the application. This update also offers new functions that can be helpful when working with texts.

For Markdown, MarkdownExtra and MultiMarkdown there is now the option to automatically insert two spaces whem doing a line break. Since inserting two spaces to create a manual line break does not usually reflects to the natural writing style, this feature might be helpful.

The extended import function for CSV tables is also interesting for MultiMarkdown and MarkdownExtra users. If the CSV file contains alignment formatting for the columns in MarkdownExtra or MultiMarkdown format, this is automatically recognized and resolved. This update offers many small improvements, bug fixes and adjustments in various areas of Myary that further improve working with the application.

There are also new options that are interesting for Markdown, Markdown Extra and MultiMarkdown users. In detail, it is about the double space at the end of lines to create a manual line break. As there is no real visual indication of this in the text, it is often overlooked. The “Highlight double spaces” option creates a visual hint that can be used to quickly identify such formatting.
Furthermore, there is now the option to automatically insert two spaces with a line break. As inserting two spaces to create a manual line break does not necessarily correspond to one's natural writing style, this function can be helpful.

MarkupTable 1.8.1 is now available on the Mac App Store.

This update for MarkupTable contains a new feature for Markdown users and two bug fixes.

For Markdown users, there has long been a desire to be able to set the column alignment supported by the syntax. I thought long about how to incorporate this feature into MarkupTable without touching the structure of the CSV file format. In the end, I opted for the most obvious and perhaps also the “simplest” solution. The direct, but optional, entry of the alignment markup in the CSV table offers several advantages:

the information can also be viewed in other programs
Changes to the CSV file in other programs do not result in the alignment settings being lost
the alignment can be adjusted quickly and easily in any editor

MarkupTable automatically recognizes the alignment markups and shapes them according to the table to create an aligned text.

The MarkupTable 1.8.1 Release Notes

New:

tables that are to be formatted for Markdown can be provided with an alignment line. If the second line contains alignment elements (:--- , :---: , ---:), MarkupTable recognizes these and automatically adjusts the result in the conversion. If there are no alignment elements in the second line or it contains characters that are not allowed for alignment, the separator line between header and body will be added automatically as before.

Bug fixes:

fixes a bug in the CSV view that caused entries made in the text field before the field separator was changed to be resetted under certain circumstances

Essaylum Testflight Beta

A new updated version of the Beta version of Essaylum is now available, which is automatically available for all TestFlight users.

Over the last few weeks I have made a lot of changes, bug fixes and fine-tuning to Essaylum. In the meantime, a rough version of the help has been written and by using Essaylum to write this help, I was able to find and improve many rough edges. Please note, the Help is not included in this version.

New features have also been added, including MD Magic Line Breaks (setting under Typography), the option to copy chapters into the research using drag'n drop and the improved overview in the export tool.

There is still a lot to do before Essaylum can be officially released.

MarkMyWords 2.11.2 released

MarkMyWords 2.11.2 is now available on the Mac App Store!

One of these is the function to select markers with the Tab key. Developers are familiar with this type of behavior from many code editors. This feature can also be useful in MarkMyWords, e.g. if there are several markers in a line, selecting them using the Tab key is much more convenient and quicker.

The new function for highlighting double spaces at the end of a line should also be mentioned. Especially for the markup language Markdown and its extended alternatives MarkdownExtra and MultiMarkdown, the double space at the end of a line has a special meaning, which in these cases is converted into a line break, i.e. br-tag. If you do not need or want this feature, you can switch it off in the MarkMyWords settings.

MarkMyWords' internal markup parser has also undergone many improvements. It is worth studying the list of changes here.

Essaylum Testflight Beta

A new updated version of the beta version of Essaylum is now available, which is automatically available for all TestFlight users. This version again offers many bug fixes, refinements and improvements in various areas.

It has taken a little longer to release an updated version this time, as I have also been working on various updates to my other applications, which will be released soon.

Regarding Essaylum, I can say that there is still a lot to do before it is officially released. There are several adjustments to be made to the user interface, the help system still needs to be written and several tests and resulting adjustments still need to be made.

MarkupTable 1.8.0 is now available on the Mac App Store.

This update for MarkupTable contains various new features, improvements and changes.

The most important change concerns Markdown. The languages previously separated into Markdown, MultiMarkdown and MarkdownExtra have been merged into Markdown with this version. This was due to confusion among some users, which is partly due to the inconsistent handling of Markdown in other applications and its alternative implementations. If you want to create a pure HTML table, you should choose HTML or the new HTML+MD export format. In addition to the HTML table, HTML+MD also generates a Markdown table (with pipes |) as a comment, which is quite attractive when viewing the HTML code.

A new section has been added to the settings to define the file extensions for the export, so that the desired file extension is preset when exporting.

In addition, various improvements have been made when importing tables from different sources, which further simplify work with other applications and require less post-editing.

The exact details of the individual improvements can be found in the release notes for this update.

The MarkupTable 1.8.0 Release Notes

The Reference Tool

If you have to write a longer text, you often create a reference catalog or a lookup list so that you always have the most important details to hand. Essaylum offers its own tool for this, so that you always have the relevant references, notes and other information to hand when writing.

What can be stored in the reference tool?

The reference tool supports the display of a variety of file types. First of all, various types of text documents such as Doc, RTF, PDF or simple text files can be collected and viewed there. Images, audio and video files are also supported. However, it should be noted that these reference files are all saved in the project itself and increase the file size of the project accordingly. It is therefore impractical to store very large media files.

Create your own reference documents

However, the real strength of this tool lies in the creation of your own reference documents, for which the same writing tools are available as for normal texts. With this type of reference document, a distinction is made between editing and viewing. Editing is carried out in the same way as for normal texts. The corresponding texts are then formatted in the viewing view. Those who also work with headings are also provided with a helpful navigation structure that makes it easier to navigate through large documents.

Grouping and searching

With reference collections, it can be difficult to find the desired information quickly once they reach a certain size. A search function is available for this purpose. It is also possible to collect references in groups. Any number of groups can be created and each of these can be assigned an icon, which can also be customized with a desired color. The reference documents can be quickly assigned to a specific group using a selection button and the display of the list of reference documents can be restricted to a specific group.

Export / import self-created references

The specially written articles and texts can be easily exported or copied via the Finder, as the texts are each available as independent Textbundle files. It is therefore also easy to transfer them to other projects, e.g. if you are writing a series, the corresponding references can be used over and over again.

Essaylum thus offers a comprehensive tool for creating and managing your own reference catalog. Furthermore, it is always within reach thanks to its convenient layout.

Illusion Format

The special new feature of this version of MarkMyWords is Illusion Format. Originally developed for Essaylum, it also finds its way into MarkMyWords.

Illusion Format can be activated in the preferences under Editor -> Highlight. With this function, the most common text formatting such as bold, italics or headlines are displayed formatted directly in the editor, as known from some word processing programs, primarily the word processors of the Office families.

For many writers who rely on a markup language to format their texts, the corresponding formatting has already become part of their writing routine, both in terms of writing and the visual aspect.

However, there are authors who appreciate the advantages of a markup language, such as the fact that it can be saved as a plain text file, making it easily accessible and allowing the text to be easily converted into different formats. However, some find the markups in the text annoying and would prefer a presentation as is usual in word processing programs such as Pages or Word. This is where Illusion Format comes into play. With this function, the current line in which the cursor is located is still displayed with markups so that you can work specifically in this line while the rest of the text is given the desired formatted look.

As this is an configurable option, everyone can decide for themselves how their text should be displayed.

Syntax Highlight

The second new feature in this update is syntax highlighting. Although MarkMyWords was already capable of syntax highlighting before, it had its problems and oddities, so I decided on a completely new development that recognizes more markups and markups more accurately and harmonizes better with the editor settings. Thanks to the new development, the highlighting also helps to immediately recognize incorrectly set markup more efficiently.

Another feature of syntax coloring is the distinction between markup and comments, which can now be colored individually.

Like Illusion Format, the syntax highlight can be activated or deactivated in the MarkMyWords settings under Editor -> Highlight. The corresponding color settings can then also be changed there.

Bug fixes and improvements

This update also offers many improvements and bug fixes for the internal markup parser for the MultiMarkdown, Textile, BBCode and Smark languages. Some bugs have also been fixed.

Recently I released an updated version of the beta version of Essaylum, which is automatically available to all TestFlight users. This version contains various bug fixes, refinements and improvements in various areas. The visual appearance is also still being fine-tuned.

Search

Search in all documents

Writing projects can become quite voluminous and if they are divided into many individual texts, i.e. chapters, searching for specific text passages and terms can become a tedious task. Essaylum offers an extensive search tool with various useful functions to make your work easier.

In addition to searching in individual chapters, it is also possible to search in all chapters simultaneously. The search is not limited to a single search term, but several terms can be specified to be searched for at once.

Find and replace

In addition to searching, Essaylum also offers the option of replacing the text passages found with new terms. Here too, it is possible to enter a corresponding value to replace each search term.

You can also selectively replace individual search results or all at once.

Critic Markup batch processing

Essaylum's special search also has its own section for Critic Markup. These special markups can also be searched for and for each type of Critic Markup a number of different options are available as to what should be done with the text passages found.

Export

An important function of a writing application is certainly the export of the written piece of work. For this purpose, Essaylum provides a comprehensive area that offers many options and enables individual exports.

The export area is divided into four sections. The first area is used to specify which chapters are to be exported. Of course, all chapters can also be selected quickly. It is also possible to add your own text documents to the export as attachments in the resources area. A selective choice is also possible here.

There are then three areas for the different formats in which the text is to be exported.

The first option is to export the text in various document formats, such as RTF or DOC. There is the additional option of combining the text into a single file or saving each individual chapter in a separate file.

Another option is to export as an ePub eBook. In this area, various meta data to be added to the eBook, options for opening behavior, additional pages, such as a table of contents, can be activated, and of course a corresponding cover can also be selected.

The third option is the special creation of a PDF document. This is special because advanced settings can be made in this area for the composition, e.g. page breaks, and appearance, e.g. the size of the headings, of the final document.

Another interesting detail of these export functions is that the settings made are saved and do not have to be reset for each new export.

Statistics tool

Essaylum offers extensive statistics on written text that go beyond the usual information provided by most text editors. In addition to the general word and character count, Essaylum also offers extensive statistics on performance. By specifying a due date and setting a target for how many characters or words the text should contain, the amount to be written per day can be calculated and the amount written on each day is also logged. This allows you to track your own progress in creating the text.

Detailed statistical information on the individual chapters can be found in the info tool, where you will find a list of the individual text components (characters, words, sentences, lines, etc.) as well as a readability rating and calculation of the page numbers. This information helps you to assess your own text using numbers.

The outline tool

Today I would like to write a few words about Essaylum's outline tool. This tool offers a wide range of options for preparing and structuring the project. This tool has been designed in such a way that it can continue to provide assistance during the actual writing process and not just in the preparatory phase.

Once the individual outline points and sub-points have been created, the points can be freely moved, removed and further points added. However, the great strength of the tool lies in the menu items “Create Chapters” and “Add Scenery to Document”, which can be accessed via the action selection button.

Using Create Chapters, Essaylum automatically creates corresponding chapter files in the specified order. It is also possible to include the sub-sections as a synopsis or to the scratch sheet of the respective document.

This action can be carried out not only at the beginning of a writing project, but also in the middle. The action can be precisely controlled by selectively choosing outline points and specifying where the corresponding chapters should be inserted in the list of chapters.

With Add Scenery to Document, the outline points can be inserted into the current document with automatic formatting, e.g. as a heading, which can be helpful when pre-structuring a chapter.

Essaylum also offers the option of creating a separate outline for each individual chapter in order to improve and refine the clarity of very large projects.

I am pleased to finally be able to present Essaylum today. Finally, because I have been working on this project for a very long time. Many of the developments that originated in Essaylum have since found their way into some of my other apps. So Essaylum will be familiar in various ways to existing users of my other apps.

Notes on the beta test

Essaylum uses Apple’s Testflight system for beta testing. For those who have not yet had any contact with Testflight, it is recommended to take a look at Apple’s overview page, where everything about Testflight is explained. The corresponding links are at the end of this entry.

In order to use the full range of Essaylum features, it is necessary to activate an In-App purchase. In Testflight, In-App purchases are provided free of charge during the beta phase. Please note the corresponding App Store messages that you receive when you log in and click on the In-App purchases. Overall, the whole procedure is structured like in the normal App Store and should be easily accessible to anyone who has ever downloaded/purchased something in the App Store.

What does Essaylum do

Simply put, Essaylum is a writing application that is primarily designed for longer texts, but of course you can also keep it short. In Essaylum, new writing projects are created as a single file in which the text can then be divided into corresponding subsections. This doesn’t sound particularly exciting, but Essaylum offers a variety of tools to help with creating a dossier, drafting an exposé or outline, proofreading, editing, publishing, checking writing performance and, of course, writing itself. These tasks should be both easily accessible and designed in such a way that the actual writing is not pushed into the background.

Due to the extensive range of Essaylum’s features, I will not go into all the different features today, but will only discuss a few of them and then gradually go into the other features over the next few weeks.

Organization

Essaylum is basically divided into three areas. On the far left is the list of main texts, which represent the final text. Next to it is the main text editor for the main texts. On the right-hand side of Essaylum’s user interface, you can switch between the different tools as required.

The editor

Users of MarkMyWords, Note-C or Myary will immediately feel at home in the editor, as it is based on the same foundation and also offers all the familiar functions. What is special about Essaylum, however, are the text clips, which can take on several values in Essaylum. To give an example, if you want to write a story about Sherlock Holmes, you will certainly use different expressions to name this person. You should therefore create a text clip that covers the different possibilities. The procedure for this example is as follows: use „sherlock“ as the trigger and call the text clip function to get the previously entered values, e.g:

Sherlock Holmes
Mr. Holmes
Master detective
Detective from Baker Street

This means you always have the right words at hand to add variety to the text. A special feature for text clips in Essaylum is the option to add the words in the text clips to your personal spell checker.

Scratch pad

A „scratch sheet“ can be created for each main text. There you can quickly jot down short notes and spontaneous ideas for later. You don’t have to leave the editor to do this; the keyboard shortcut CMD + Shift + Space can be used to quickly call up an input mask in which the idea can be written. The note is then added to the scratch sheet using CMD + Enter and the actual work on the main text can be continued.
The corresponding scratch pad can be found in the Info tool.

MarkMyWords 2.10.1 is now available on the Mac App Store!

This update for MarkMyWords offers several bug fixes and improvements in various areas of the app. In addition, a few smaller new features have been added.

The new output format Add to clipboard has been added for the Extensions area.

In the editor, multiple selections can now be provided with markup, which can certainly make work easier if markup has to be added in different areas of a text.

Another new feature for the editor is the auto-conversion of text copied from web pages in the clipboard, which adds the corresponding markup to the pasted text. This function must be activated in the MarkMyWords preferences under Editor, otherwise the text will be pasted as plain text just like before.

The last point I would like to mention is the import of PDF documents. Even though this function works well for the most part, it should be used with caution. PDF documents are by nature quite unconventional, even copy/paste can result in strange combinations. For this reason, the result should always be checked carefully after an import to ensure that the order of the text is correct.

MarkMyWords 2.10.0 is now available on the Mac App Store!

This update for MarkMyWords has some interesting new features. There is a new default setting for the text editor that creates a double line break for headings. This is interesting and important in two respects. Firstly, in some environments that interpret markup languages, it is important to perform an additional line break for headings. Secondly, it is also visually very helpful to have such a line break in the text.

Another new feature in MarkMyWords is a readability score for the text. This doesn't sound very exciting at first, but the development of this calculation certainly was, and it also brings you closer to the complexity of language. Detailed explanations of the readability rating can be found in the MarkMyWords help. MarkMyWords currently supports the languages English and German in the readability evaluation and after the experiences during the development, I don't think that there will be added any more languages.

For the development of Javascript extensions, the option is now available to add further files with Javascript code (functions) to the respective extensions. This eliminates the need to add existing functions to the main script and the existing functions can therefore be easily reused. A corresponding example can now be found on the extensions page.

With this update, the internal MultiMarkdown parser also receives a small upgrade. It can now also process the markup for abbreviations (acronyms). Please note that the internal markup parser only processes the current syntax of version 6 of MultiMarkdown. However, both the regular and the alternative syntax are supported. Below is the corresponding example from the official MultiMarkdown-Documentation:

Javascript Extensions

With MarkMyWords 2.9.0, extensions can now also be created with Javascript. Because Javascript is implemented in macOS itself and offers various integration options, it provides easy access for the development of your own extensions. In addition, the scripting languages previously supported by MarkMyWords (Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby) are no longer readily available in newer macOS versions and require additional software to be installed, which is not very practical for those who do not also happen to work with these languages.

It is therefore obvious that the further development of extensions will focus primarily, perhaps even exclusively, on functions with Javascript.

A first batch of smaller extensions written with Javascript can already be downloaded from MarkMyWords-Extensions-Seite. These are mainly implementations of existing extensions that were developed in PHP.

If you want to develop your own extensions, you should first read the Extensions chapter in the MarkMyWords help. There you will also find a list of special variables and functions that may be important for the development of your own MarkMyWords extensions.

Further new features

In addition to the introduction of Javascript extensions, this update of MarkMyWords offers a few other interesting new functions. Firstly, the conversion of numbers into full words. You can now simply write 100 in the text and by pressing the Tab key the number is converted to "one hundred".

The text check function has also been given a new feature: Error learning. Since some errors occur again and again, in my case there were many forms of the old German spelling, this function is very useful. Instead of having to correct these errors over and over, learned errors are automatically corrected during the check.

The last major new function is a service for MarkMyWords, which makes it possible to send selected text from any program to MarkMyWords and open it in a new document. This service can be found in the menu under Program name > Services > MMW Document from selected text. Please note that text must be selected, otherwise this command will not appear.

MarkMyWords PHP Extensions updated and announcement of MarkMyWords 2.9.0

The PHP examples for MarkMyWords Extensions have been updated to be compatible with PHP 8.2. The actual functionality has not changed. The updated versions of the Extensions can now be downloaded from the MarkMyWords Extensions page.

More interesting regarding Extensions is certainly the support of the scripting language Javascript for the development of Extensions for MarkMyWords with the upcoming update. In contrast to the other scripting languages previously used by MarkMyWords, Javascript is actively supported by Apple and offers developers the corresponding options for integrating it into apps. The upcoming update will add the option to develop Extensions with Javascript to the extent that the currently used options for Extensions can be used.

I hope to be able to release MarkMyWords 2.9.0 in January 2024. However, there is still some minor work to be done before I can release this update.

AnoLTEd 1.1.0 released

AnoLTEd 1.1.0 is now available on the Mac App Store.

The update of AnoLTEd offers a nice new feature to correct texts faster. In reviewing several texts, I kept noticing the same errors, especially adaptations to the new German spelling. E.g. changing daß to dass or Schloß to Schloss. Therefore it was obvious to give AnoLTEd an appropriate function, which corrects these errors automatically if necessary.

With the learn function selected errors can be added to the own learn dictionary, so that these errors are corrected automatically during future text checks.

In addition, this update offers some minor visual adjustments to the user interface that improves the overall look and feel.

About AnoLTEd:

AnoLTEd is a frontend for LanguageTool.org's web service for checking texts for spelling and grammar errors.

LanguageTool currently supports about 30 different languages, some of them also in different dialects, for spelling and grammar checking. These can also be set in AnoLTEd. AnoLTEd was specifically designed to work with plain text files and therefore works well with markup formatted files. For example, AnoLTEd is a great companion to the apps Myary and Note-C, where the "Edit In" button can be used to quickly send to, check and edit the current text in AnoLTEd.

AnoLTEd can be downloaded free of charge and without restrictions from the Mac App Store. The in-app purchases included in AnoLTEd are optional, for those who want to support my work a little.

AnoLTEd is a frontend for LanguageTool.org's web service for checking texts for spelling and grammar errors. I only recently came across this service, although it has been around for a while, and I really liked LanguageTool's performance. In addition, LanguageTool offers a free web interface to integrate LanguageTool into your own apps or other projects. Until now, I never had the opportunity to work with such an app-server communication, which was another reason to start this small project.

MarkMyWords 2.8.0 is now available on the Mac App Store!

It's time again for an update of MarkMyWords and this one brings improvements in several areas, bug fixes and a new, completely reworked function for printing formatted documents or creating PDF files.

New: Revised function of printing formatted documents

The revised function for printing the formatted document or creating a PDF file works much better with MarkMyWords 2.8.0 with regard to the target medium. Using the settings within the preferences of MarkMyWords, there a variety of options to adjust the result to your own preferences.
All those who are familiar with CSS also have the option to further individualize the desired result by using their own CSS file.
This feature requires macOS 11.0 or later.

Improvements in various areas

This update provides improvements in several areas to make working with MarkMyWords even better. In addition to improvements in importing text documents into MarkMyWords, which now produce significantly less excess blank space, the behavior of the CriticMarkup popover and Textclips has been refined to make them more responsive to input in various situations. Finally, among the improvements, there are small changes to the text statistics, in particular to the sentence count, which, for example, no longer counts list items as sentences.

Note-C 2.5.0 is now available on the Mac App Store.

This update of Note-C provides various improvements and bug fixes for the internal markup parser as well as new features, both new user interface customization features and a useful tool for CriticMarkup users.

With this update, options are now available in the preferences to display the sidebar with the icons in the normal, in a thinner version, or even to hide it completely.

For Distraction Free Mode, this update provides some improvements in handling background images and a new option to perform scrolling of the text field using mouse/trackpad even if the pointer is outside the text field.

The new feature for CriticMarkup users is the Inline CriticMarkup function, which can be activated via the menu item Markup > Inline CriticMarkup, preferably via the keyboard shortcut ⌃P, which allows selected text to be quickly and elegantly set up with CriticMarkup.

MarkMyWords 2.7.0 is available now on the Mac App Store!

This update of MarkMyWords offers various improvements and bug fixes for the internal markup parser as well as two new features that can be a good help when working with texts.

First, the spelling and grammar checker from LanguageTool.org has been integrated into MarkMyWords. This offers a significant gain over the checker integrated in macOS and can be a noticeable support when working with texts. This new feature is located in the preview area and can be activated by clicking the corresponding button in the ribbon bar above the preview.

The second new feature in this update is the Inline CriticMarkup function, which can be activated via the menu item Markup > Inline CriticMarkup, preferably via the keyboard shortcut ⌃P, thus making it possible to apply CriticMarkup to selected text fast.
